BulkRegister Now Accepting .eu Domain Name Applications - 2005-12-20
BulkRegister, the world's leading business registrar, announced that is accepting pre-registrations for the new .eu domain names, the Top-Level Domain (TLD) for the European Union. The domain is intended to foster European identity and heighten visibility for pan-European e-commerce. The .eu domain is a critical milestone for companies and resellers seeking to compete successfully internationally. BulkRegister believes that the extension will become as universally recognizable as the popular .com domain.
"Any business or reseller serious about growing or maintaining their business in Europe - or competing in the global economy - has to register the appropriate .eu domains," says Eric Rice, General Manager of BulkRegister. "We believe the availability of .eu domains represents a significant new online opportunity for our members, and we expect very strong demand."
While not replacing existing ccTLDs such as .fr or .co.uk, the new .eu domain will complement them and provide users with the advantage of having a pan-European Internet identity. From December 2005 until the end of January 2006, only intellectual property holders with registered trademarks, public bodies and companies can register. In February, family names can be registered with the .eu domain. After this pre-registration "sunrise period," the general public is welcome to register names beginning in April. Those meeting the following criteria may apply to pre-register .eu names during the December-March 31, 2006 "sunrise period." All domains will be assigned on a first-come-first-serve basis.
(a) Applicant must have a registered office, central administration or principal place of business within the European Community; or
(b) Applicant must be an established organization within the European Community; or
(c) Applicant must reside within the European Community.
The .eu domain name is being administered by EURid, a private European nonprofit group. EURid has partnered with BulkRegister, and other leading Registrars, to accept registrations on its behalf.
