Globetel to Install Wireless Networks in 30 Russian Cities - 2006-01-04
Globetel Wireless, a subsidiary of Globetel Communications, has entered into an agreement to install wireless communications networks in 30 cities throughout the Russian Federation, providing broadband, VOIP and DECt technologies.
Russian company Internafta will pay Globetel Wireless a reported $600m via four construction payments for the installation of the networks in Russia's 30 largest cities, beginning with Moscow and St. Petersburg.
In October 2005 Globetel demonstrated its Hot Zone 4010 equipment, which will form the backbone of the wireless networks, to members of the Russian government and telecommunications and technology establishment. Globetel Wireless will manage the networks and maintain a 50 per cent shareholding. Globetel plans to roll out the network in three phases (10 cities per phase) over the next 27 months.
